“Innovation and Inspiration Embracing the Classic and the Contemporary”
Howard County's Only Professional Orchestra
The Howard County Concert Orchestra was formed to provide Howard County with a completely professional orchestra, dedicated to exceptional performances of classical music from the Baroque era to the 21 century.
This is a chamber orchestra different from a symphony orchestra, composed of a smaller number of musicians, from as few as eight to as many as forty five professional musicians selected from a wealth of regional talent. As such, the orchestra has the versatility to perform music written originally for smaller forces as well as music written for larger symphony orchestras, but with greater clarity, highlighting the unique sound of each instrument and bringing an intimacy and attention to detail not otherwise possible.
The Sunday, January 11th, 2015 “African Heritage” Concert featured Beverly White-Seals, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Howard County as Emcee, and Denée Barr, visual and performing artist in a special Preamble to the concert. Also featured were rare African art on display from the African Art Museum of Maryland, Doris Ligon, curator, and a slideshow of photos and memorabilia related to the composers of music performed at the concert.
